Don Papa Rum celebrates the passion and enthusiasm of the revolutionary and hero Papa Isio, from the island of Negros in the Philippines, who fought for the island’s independence. Made from molasses, known as “black gold”, it is aged for several years in barrels made from former American Bourbon, at the foot of Mount Kanlaon, before being blended to give it a rich flavor. The final blend highlights the spirit of Don Papa, overflowing with citrus and vanilla aromas on the nose, while it is filled with notes of candied tropical fruits and honey with a long bold aftertaste of dried raisins and charred oak. It’s perfect to enjoy it plain, with ice or in your favorite cocktail.
The story of Don Papa Rum begins at the foot of the active volcano Mt. Kanlaon, where sugar cane is ground to create a sweet, rich molasses. The Philippines has historically been one of the top ten sugar cane producers in the world! Negros Island, or Sugarlandia, as the locals call it, produces over half of the country’s total sugar production. “Don Papa” is a tribute to Papa Isio, the true and charismatic leader of the Negros, who in the 1890s helped the island and won the island’s independence from the Spanish.
