Don Papa Rye Cask Aged is a rare & old rum, a dry and spicy expression from the Philippines. It matures entirely in barrels that had American rye whiskey! The rum spent four years in those barrels before being bottled at 45% ABV.
The story of Don Papa Rum begins at the foot of the active volcano Mt. Kanlaon, where sugar cane is ground to create a sweet, rich molasses. The Philippines has historically been one of the top ten sugar cane producers in the world! Negros Island, or Sugarlandia, as the locals call it, produces over half of the country’s total sugar production. “Don Papa” is a tribute to Papa Isio, the true and charismatic leader of the Negros, who in the 1890s helped the island and won the island’s independence from the Spanish.
