An award-winning Japanese whiskey full of character. With a complex and complex taste, dominant notes of dried fruit and a light leathery scent, Taketsuru 21 will fascinate you. A mature Japanese malt whiskey, with aging helping to make it intense and spicy. Malt is blended from Nikka’s 2 distilleries (Yoichi & Miyagikyo), which remain for at least 21 years in bourbon and sherry barrels. This results in an aged whiskey with full flavor and rich aromas.

The Japanese art known as Nikka whisky is the “child” of Masataka Taketsuru, the first person who created Japanese whisky. With extensive experience in distilling Scotch malt, Masataka Taketsuru returned to Japan in 1920 from Scotland, where he had been working. In 1933, he opened his own distillery with the aim of creating his own premium Japanese whisky. Today, Japanese Nikka whiskies have 2 distilleries, one in Hokkaido (Yoichi Distillery) and one in Miyagi (Miyagikyo/Sendai Distillery). Yoichi is the last distillery in Japan that uses coal heating, something that helps to preserve the traditional character of the spirit. On the other hand, at Miyagikyo, a lighter, fruitier whisky is produced, similar to those from the Lowlands of Scotland. It is noteworthy that here they mix malt whisky with grain whisky, a process that very few distilleries in Scotland do.

The art of Japanese whisky from its creator, Masataka Taketsuru.
